Lakefront Camping at Bullocksville Campground

North Carolina is known for its beauty.  From mountains, to waterfalls, to their stunning beaches, it’s all gorgeous. But more people need to know about their incredible lakes!  Bullocksville Campground is located right on the banks of Kerr Lake and it’s worth every penny.

Bullocksville Campground is located in Kerr Lake State Recreation Area and is one of the 8 campgrounds that are placed around Kerr Lake.  With stunning lakefront sites with electric and water hookup, you can’t go wrong camping here.

My husband and I camped here for a week and would have been happy to stay longer!  So let’s dive into why YOU should go camping at Bullocksville Campground.

Location

Bullocksville Campground is in northern North Carolina, right on the North Carolina and Virginia state line.  What is known as Kerr Lake State Recreation Area hosts 8 different campgrounds all throughout the North Carolina side of Kerr Lake.

When you are searching for Bullocksville Campground, you might have trouble finding the actual campground, so be sure to use the physical address below!

3050 Bullocksville Park Rd Manson, NC 27553

This perfect place for camping is just 3 hours northeast of Charlotte, NC, 1.5 hours south of Richmond, VA, 2.5 hours west of Norfolk, VA and 3.5 hours west of the Outer Banks, NC.  So if you need some nature therapy, get out of the city and head to Bullocksville Campground in Kerr Lake State Recreation Area.

Time to Spend Here

Kerr Lake is a huge lake!  Like, 50,000 acres of water surface, huge!  So you could truly spend an infinite amount of time on the water here.  Between fishermen, kayakers, jet ski enthusiasts, and every other type of watercraft lover, there is so much to do and explore!

But what about camping at Bullocksville Campground?

We spent a week here and while we were there, it seemed most people would spend a few days here and then move on.  There isn’t much to do in the area, and the nearest town/walmart is a solid 25 minutes away.  But if you need some time away from the city or your job, this is the place to escape with a view!

A gorgeous sunset from Bullocksville Campground in Kerr Lake State Recreation Area.

I would recommend at least a weekend here to truly relax and watch a few sunrises and sunsets.  But you can book for up to 2 full weeks here and I can guarantee you wouldn’t regret booking a lakefront spot with views like this!

Bullocksville Campground

Bullocksville Campground has 64 bookable campsites.  31 have Electric and Water hookups, and the other 33 are Non-electric sites, perfect for tent camping.  Campsites can be booked up to 6 months in advance here

I highly recommend booking a lakefront campsite because you’ll get incredible views over the water.  We saw Osprey and Bald Eagles flying as well as Blue Herons and other songbirds every morning and evening.

Plus, the immaculately kept bath/shower houses are perfect for those smaller campers who don’t use their showers, or tent campers who obviously don’t have a shower.

Non-Electric Sites (Dog Friendly)

At Bullocksville Campground, there are 33 non-electric sites.  These sites are mostly tent-only sites and allow 6 people, and up to 2 dogs, to camp on these sites.

Sites 1 – 8 are tent only and are quite small.  But the remaining non-electric sites can accommodate tents/trailers/RVs.  Just be sure to read the details of each site before you book to ensure that your rig will fit!

The campground has 2 small loops of the non-electric sites, making for a quiet area of camping.  There is a bathroom located right at the entrance of the smaller loop (sites 1 – 8) and then the bathhouse is located at the front of the larger non-electric loop (sites 12 – 29).

One thing to note, these sites are NOT water-front sites.  They have views of the lake, but are quite a ways above the water.  So don’t be fooled by the campground map that makes it look like they are all lake-front.

Electric Sites (Dog Friendly)

With 31 remaining campsites at Bullocksville Campground, you will find water and electric hookup.  This is perfect for any sort of recreational vehicle, and we saw rigs of all sizes parked here enjoying life along the lake.

Site 47 at Bullocksville Campground.

Some of these sites ARE lakefront and offer the best views!  We were lucky enough to have a lakefront site (Site 47).  The sites that have the best lakefront views (in my opinion) are 44, 45, 47, 48, 50, 52, 54, 55D, 60, 61, 62, 63, and 64.

If you want these lakefront sites, make sure that you book as soon as you know your plans because they do fill up fast!

The bathhouse here is cleaned daily and perfectly kept.  It is located right across from the Handicap site (H1) which has a concrete pad and plenty of space for any handicap campers who stay here.

The Double Campsites

One other thing to note is that there are 2 double campsites at Bullocksville Campground.  These sites can accommodate 12 people and were full the entire time we camped here.  There was plenty of room for 2 large campers and even a tent on these sites.  This would be a fun way to camp as a large group of friends or multiple families.

These sites (55D and 40D) seem to book before the other sites, so if you are looking to group camp on these sites, I would book as soon as you can!

Price Comparison

Everyone wants to stay in the nicest way that they can, but sometimes these ways aren’t always affordable.  But at Bullocksville Campground, both the non-electric sites and the electric sites are very affordable!  But let’s compare, shall we?

**Disclaimer, these were the prices at the time of our travels to Bullocksville.  Prices may change on the weekends or holidays and/or go up each year.**

Non-Electric Campsites

  • $23 per night (plus Tax)

Electric Campsites

  • $30 per night (plus Tax)

Our Camping Experience

While camping here, my husband, myself and our dog had an amazing time!  We were able to sit outside and work here and each evening we went for long walks around the Bullocksville Park area.  We even took our tubes out on the lake and floated on the warmer days!  If we had had our kayaks or a boat with us, we would have been able to enjoy the water even more.

The sites are nice and spacious, there is a great cell service here (Verizon), and the bathhouse was incredibly clean.  We enjoyed watching the sun rise and set each day as well as watching all the action on the lake. And who wouldn’t enjoy watching Bald Eagles and Osprey fly right over your campsite!?

We would recommend Bullocksville Campground to anyone with or without a camper.  You just can’t beat the price and how well-kept the campground is.  We honestly wish we had stayed here for longer than just a week, but such is the life of trying to see it all.

Conclusion

Bullocksville Campground is located in Kerr Lake State Recreation Area in North Carolina.  This gorgeous campground offers electric and non-electric sites at a great price for any camper.

If you want the coveted lakefront campsites here, you’ll need to book as soon as you know your plans!  But trust me, it’s worth it!
