Collier Memorial State Park: Everything You Need To Know

If you’re looking for the perfect place to get away and relax, Collier Memorial State Park is the place for you!  This small state park has a great campground, purposefully set up to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of life.  They also have a great logging museum to learn a bit about Oregon’s logging history.

And while this park isn’t loaded with things to do, maybe that’s the point.  To relax and unplug while getting some fresh air.

So let’s jump into everything you need to know about this low-key park.  Here’s everything you need to know about Collier Memorial State Park.

Location

First up, let’s discuss where the park is located.  Collier Memorial State Park sits just outside the small town of Chiloquin, OR and about 40 minutes north of Klamath Falls, OR.  

As for larger cities, the state park is about 2 hours from Bend, OR, 2.5 hours from Eugene, OR and 4 hours from Portland, OR.  Making this the perfect place to get away from the city if you are an Oregon Resident.  

Day Use Fees

Next up, let’s discuss the boring topic of fees.  If you’re looking for a cheap way to spend your day, Collier Memorial State Park is the place for you!  Unlike most of Oregon’s State Parks, there is No Fee to visit.

Most Oregon state parks cost $10 if you are an OR Resident or $12 if you are a non-resident.  But Collier Memorial is free.

Day Use and Picnic Area

Now that you know it’s free, head right to their picnic area for a beautiful place to enjoy lunch.  

The day use area of Collier Memorial State Park is located here. Right off of Highway 97, you’ll find picnic tables, bathrooms, and easy river access for viewing the gorgeous Spring Creek.

Logging Museum

Right across the road is Collier Memorial State Park Logging Museum.  Here you’ll find old equipment, old trucks, and lots of great information about the industry.  This indoor and outdoor museum is one of the largest logging equipment collections in the country.

The actual museum is open daily from 8am to 4pm.  However, if you miss this window of time, you can always take the self-guided walking tour.  Here is the Self-Guided Tour Brochure.

What to Expect

Oregon is a very unique state.  There are sections of the state that are located at sea level, or just a few hundred feet above the water.  But Chiloquin, the nearest town, sits at 4,200 feet of elevation.  

This higher elevation is both very dry, and might impact your breathing.  Typically 4,000 feet isn’t enough to really notice, but if you are running or hiking, you might notice the slightly thinner air.  

So keeping this in mind, let’s take a look at all there is to do in Collier Memorial State Park.

Things to Do Here

Collier Memorial isn’t a very big state park, only about 530 acres.  So if there isn’t a ton of space, what is there to do here?

Well for a quick visit, there is a great picnic area and of course the previously mentioned Logging Museum.  Both of these are great for a quick or historical stop when traveling Highway 97.  

As for in the park, there are a few short hiking trails.  Here are 2 of the trails listed on AllTrails, but there are others connecting the campground to the logging museum. 

The crystal-clear Spring Creek and the Williamson River both flow into the park.  You can easily kayak these bodies of water, or simply try your hand at fishing.  Both are relaxing and enjoyable pastimes to enjoy in Collier Memorial State Park.  

If you are an equestrian, there are a few horse trails that run through the park.   There are even Horse Campsites here!  These 2 horse sites are only available if you have a horse, and cost $24 per night.   

And speaking of camping, let’s dive into camping in Collier Memorial.  

Camping 

Camping has been a long-standing way to take a vacation on a budget.  Or just to relax around a campfire.  And whether you are camping in a tent, camper, or anything in between, the Collier Memorial State Park campground is a great option for you!

There are 42 full hook-up sites, 17 tent sites, 2 horse sites, and 3 ADA compliant campsites.  These sites are spread out over 2 loops (A loop and B loop), with bathrooms and hot showers located right in the middle.  

The campground also offers a dump station if you don’t stay at one of the full hook-up sites.    

You can book campsites up to 6 months in advance at this website.  But what will camping at Collier Memorial State Park cost you?

Camping Price Comparison

Below you’ll find the prices of camping at either a tent site or a camper site.  **Prices can change at any time.  Prices do not include taxes and fees! This is just to give you an idea of the cost.**

Tent Site

• OR Resident: $24 per night 
• OR Resident: $168 per week
• Non-Resident: $30 per night 
• Non-Resident: $210 per week

Camper/RV Site (Full Hook-up)

• OR Resident: $36 per night 
• OR Resident: $252 per week
• Non-Resident: $45 per night 
• Non-Resident: $315 per week

Again, these numbers are just to give you an idea of prices.  Also, please note that as of 2026, Non-residents pay 25% more for all site types.  This change happened in mid-2026 and seems like it will stick around.  

Things To Do in the Area

In and around Collier Memorial State Park are some great places to stop and enjoy Oregon’s beauty. About 2 hours north of the state park, is Bend, OR.  Here you can explore the ever-popular Smith Rocks State Park.  You could also stop at  Tumalo State Park on your way.   

If you’re headed northeast, you’re about an hour from Crater Lake National Park.  This is the deepest lake in the United States and definitely worth visiting, even if just for an hour!

And if you are looking for civilization, Klamath Falls is about 40 minutes south.  In this city you can find anything you could possibly want.  Anything from restaurants, to shopping, to walking trails.  

Conclusion

Collier Memorial State Park might not be one of Oregon’s most incredible state parks, but it sure is a great place to relax!  With an incredible campground, easy hiking trails, places to kayak and fish, you don’t want to miss relaxing in Collier Memorial State Park.
