Location/Parking
Let’s start with the location of Schwabacher Landing. Technically, Schwabacher Landing isn’t within the borders of Grand Teton National Park. It’s just outside of the park and the parking lot is located right off of Hwy89/191/26 (yes this road goes by many names).

As for getting to Schwabacher Landing from nearby cities, you’ll be looking at a 25 minute drive from Jackson, WY, 1 hour and 20 minutes from Dubois, WY and just under 4 hours from Cody, WY. My husband and I stayed in Dubois due to its affordability, so we had to get up very early for sunrise here!
I do have two quick warnings for you, the road down to the parking lot is a narrow, dirt road, and the parking lot fills up very quickly. So I would suggest going before 9am or after 4pm to avoid the craziest time of the day.
Reservations/Fees
Next up, let’s discuss the reservations/fees.
Visiting Schwabacher Landing does not require reservations or a fee. Since this beautiful location is technically outside of the park, it’s free! But what about the rest of the park?
Grand Teton National Park itself does not have a reservation system, but the park does have fees. Like all other national parks, there are a range of entrance fees. There is the Standard Fee that is applied at the entrance and good for 7 days in the park.
If you are planning on being in Grand Teton National Park for more than a week, there is an annual pass option. This pass is good only at Grand Teton, but is valid for you and a car-full of guests for 12 months.
On the other hand, if you are intending on visiting 3 or more national parks/seashores/monuments/etc, then you will want to invest in one of the other pass options, such as the America the Beautiful Pass. There are other annual options listed below.

The Standard Passes are good for 7 days and are as follows:
- -Walk/Bike into the park: $20 per person
- -Motorcycle: $30 per vehicle
- -Standard Vehicle: $35 per vehicle
These Annual Passes are good for 12 months and they are:
- -Grand Teton National Park Annual Pass: $70
- –America the Beautiful Pass: $80
- -Senior (62+) Pass: $20
- -Senior (62+) Lifetime Pass: $80
- -Military Annual/Lifetime Pass: Free
My husband and I have bought the America the Beautiful Pass every year since 2021 and it has saved us hundreds of dollars at the parks. This pass is $80 and is good for 12 months at ANY national location.
What to Expect
Alright, now that you’ve paid your fee and know where to park, let’s discuss what to expect from Schwabacher Landing.
Schwabacher Landing is a very popular no-hike (or minimal hiking) location in Grand Teton National Park. There are 2 parking lots, and they both are pretty small. When you first turn down Schwabacher Landing Road, you’ll notice the road is made of dirt, is a bit bumpy, and gets quite narrow in places. Take your time and go slow.

The two parking lots are impossible to miss, as the main lot is where this road dead ends. And the other, smaller lot is located down to the left, on the only turn-off of the road. Both lots WILL fill up at sunrise, so get there early, or pack your patience if you are visiting between 9am – 4pm.
The views here are stunning, and the reflection of the Teton Mountains on the Snake River is jaw-droppingly beautiful. I highly recommend walking along the river’s edge and taking in different views of the area if you are able. You can follow the edge of the water in either direction and capture beautiful reflection shots and even wildlife here!
But when is the best time of day to see Schwabacher Landing?
Sunrise or Sunset?
Schwabacher Landing is beautiful no matter the time of day you visit. But the best experiences will come on a clear day at sunrise or sunset. Yes, you can visit at sunrise or sunset and you can’t go wrong.
Don’t believe me? I’ll show you.
Sunrise at Schwabacher Landing
Sunrise at Schwabacher Landing is probably the most iconic view you’ll ever see of the park. The mountains will glow pink when the sun first hits them and then the sun will light up the trees right in front of the mountains. This is particularly beautiful in the Fall.

Again, the parking lot fills up fast here, particularly on weekends and in the summer. You will need to get there at least an hour (or an hour and a half) before sunrise to get parking and to snag a good spot along the water.
My Morning Here: I arrived around 5:30am, sunrise was at 7:05am that morning, and I stayed until around 8am when the trees were completely aglow.
As a whole, sunrises/mornings are always better than afternoons/sunsets in Grand Teton National Park. Across the board, this is when the mountains glow and show the most detail.
Sunset at Schwabacher Landing
But what about sunset? When the sun sets at Schwabacher Landing, the sun is behind the mountains. This gives them a backlit effect, creating a beautiful glow. And with the iconic silhouette of the Tetons glowing, you can’t go wrong stopping for photos here.
Truly the lighting this time of day is MAGICAL.

My husband and I got here around 4pm to watch the light change, watch the sunset, and to ensure we had a great spot. We also were able to take some really nice portraits here.
Portrait Photography
Another reason to visit Schwabacher Landing, is the amazing photos you can capture of you/your family. The reflection of the mountains and the amazing lighting here will create a beautiful photo you’ll want to hang on your wall forever. I know we love ours!

My husband and I captured this photo (and several others) with our camera, tripod and wireless remote. If you are looking for a great place for family photos, romantic photos, or just a beautiful selfie, Schwabacher Landing is the place to go!
And now that you know WHY you want to visit here, let’s discuss flights and hotels.
Getting Here
If you are like most US residents, you probably live near one of the coasts. If this is the case, then you’ll be looking to fly and rent a car to visit Grand Teton National Park.
The closest airport is the Jackson Hole Airport, which is only 15 minutes from Schwabacher Landing. United Airlines, American Airlines, Alaska Air, and Delta all fly here. The airport and location are both beautiful, but it can cost a pretty penny to fly into.
For a more affordable option (you’ll have to double check the math on this depending on the day you want to fly in), you can fly into Salt Lake City. My husband and I were able to save $200 per ticket by flying here and then driving the 5-ish hours north.
Where to Stay
What about recommendations of places to stay? There are close to 100 hotels/lodges/rentals that you can choose from when visiting Jackson, WY. But again, I have to warn you, there aren’t really any budget options. Like the average hotel costs $400+ per night in Jackson.
In the name of a budget, we decided to rent a cabin at the Dubois/Wind River KOA. Additionally, there are affordable options in Victor, Idaho. Staying in Victor means you’ll have to drive across the Teton Pass to reach Grand Teton, but if this fits your budget better, then it’s worth it.
Other Locations to Visit in Grand Teton National Park
If you are looking for other amazing no-hike locations in Grand Teton National Park, you’ll want to check out Oxbow Bend, Mormon Row, the Church of Transfiguration, and the Jenny Lake area.

On the other hand, if you are looking to explore other remote areas of the park, you’ll want to hike to Delta Lake, Amphitheater Lake, Cascade Canyon, and Paintbrush Canyon (to name just a few).
And if you want to make the quick-ish drive north, Yellowstone National Park is the perfect place to extend your trip. You’ll be able to view amazing waterfalls, wildlife and of course Old Faithful!
Conclusion
Schwabacher Landing is possibly the most beautiful place in all of Grand Teton National Park. Whether you are looking to take some family photos here, watch the sunrise, or just enjoy a beautiful little-to-no-hike location, you will LOVE Schwabacher Landing.
So grab a flight, book that hotel, and go explore the Tetons!
