Location

Village Creek State Park is just outside of Beaumont, TX.  This quiet little campground is the perfect place to get away from the hustle of life. But Village Creek won’t take you miles and miles away from civilization.

If you’re looking to take a Village Creek State Park Camping Trip, you’ll have to drive 1.5 hours from Houston, TX, 4 hours from Austin,TX, and 4 hours from New Orleans, LA.  So while the park might not be a day trip for you, it’s a great place for a weekend getaway!

Fees

Texas State Parks has daily fees associated with each park.  In the case of Village Creek State Park, there is a $4 fee, per person, if you are 13 or older.  Kids under 12 can enter for free.

But what if you are camping here?  Unfortunately, even if you are camping here you still have to pay that daily fee upon your check in.  So on top of your campsite price, you will have to pay $4 per person per day, which adds up quickly!

If you are planning on multiple Village Creek State Park Camping Trips, or any other Texas state parks trips, I highly recommend buying the Texas State Parks Pass!  It’s $70 and covers you and your entire vehicle of guests to get in for free.

Campground

Village Creek State Park has 2 camping sections that are practically 2 different campgrounds.  They have the secluded, walk-in, primitive campsites that are heavily wooded and peaceful.  And then you have the campground loop that is a little crammed together to fit the maximum number of campers into their loop.

While both are nice, the difference is striking!  If you have a tent, you can choose either option, one with electricity or a site without.  However, if you are in some sort of RV, you will have to stay in the tight quarters option.

Primitive Sites

First up are the walk-in, primitive sites.  These sites are exactly what they sound like, you park in a parking lot, lug all of your gear to your site, and there are no amenities as these sites, except a fire ring and a picnic table.

A Primitive Site at Village Creek State Park

If you are planning the cheapest possible Village Creek State Park camping trip, this will fit the bill.  This section is very peaceful and several of the sites are right on the banks of Village Creek.

Electric Sites

Next is the typical campground, where there is a level, paved pad for your tent or camper, as well as room to park your vehicle.  This section of the campground is a little tight.

The Electric Campsite in Village Creek State Park

Each site is paved, has water hook-up, electric hook-up and has a picnic table back behind where your rig is parked.  The sites are all partially shaded and vary in length from 45 feet to 60 feet long.

I will say that the roads in and around Village Creek State Park are a little narrow, so take it slow and get to the campground safely!

Group Camping

If you are planning a group trip for a Youth Group or a Scout Troop, you might want to consider a Village Creek State Park camping trip!  They have a group area that can be reserved for $30 per night and it can accommodate up to 50 people in 10 vehicles.

The Group Site at Village Creek State Park

This can only be reserved by calling the park office (512-389-8920).  This is to avoid any confusion as not just any group can book this site.  The Group Camping Area is only for sponsored youth groups-scouts, churches, etc.

There are picnic tables and a couple of fire rings here with room for several tents.  You will have to carpool as there are only 10 parking spaces, and then a quick 100 yards walk to reach your site. The site does have water but not electricity.

The Cabin

And finally, for those of you who don’t want to sleep on the ground, or who don’t own a camper, we have reached the cabin!  There is only one cabin in Village Creek State Park, so make sure you reserve it as soon as you can.

The cabin is tucked away by the creek and can accommodate 8 people.  There is a queen bed in the main bedroom, 2 twin beds in the loft and a queen size pull-out couch.

Newly remodeled in 2017, the cabin now includes a full bathroom with a large shower, a completely modernized kitchen, a screened in porch, and a cozy electric fireplace.

One final note about staying in the cabin.  Pets are not allowed and neither is smoking.  You will have to bring all of your bedding, utensils, cookware, and towels.  And finally, there is a $100 refundable deposit that will be collected when you check in.  This is to cover any damages or excessing cleaning that must be done.

Our Camping Experience

My husband and I camped here for 1 night in our camper.  We immediately noticed how narrow the roads were upon entry, so we were careful to take out time getting there.

The sites themselves were very level, paved, and had electric/water hook-ups.  However, we did feel very close to our neighbor, as their camper was mere feet from our rig.

That being said, the sitting area (with picnic table and fire ring) was a nice bonus of added space in the shade.  We were able to sit back there and relax in the evening.

The bathhouse was very clean!  And those showers not only got hot, but had great water pressure (priorities!).

Overall, we would definitely camp here again to have more time to relax.  We would love to come back with our kayaks and take advantage of the paddling trail right there in the park.

Conclusion

Whether you come to camp in a tent or a camper, there is a spot just begging for you to take a Village Creek State Park camping trip!  And if you aren’t one to sleep on the ground, make sure you check out the Village Creek Cabin that has been newly remodeled.

Village Creek State Park has great fishing, paddling and hiking/biking for all you adventurers.  So pack a bag and head out to the campground!
