With winter and snow occupying Jackson Hole Wyoming over half of the year, you might be asking yourself, “what is there to do in the winter anyway?” I’ve created a list of 5 things to do in Jackson Hole Wyoming that you definitely won’t want to miss!
Every tourist town has an influx of tourists in the summer months. And Jackson Hole Wyoming is no different! Especially with its close proximity to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park.
This town and area is arguably one of the most beautiful places in the United States. Beautiful means tourists. But, if you are looking to avoid the crowds, head to Jackson Hole Wyoming in the winter.
While you won’t be able to hike or swim like you would in the summer months, there is still so much beauty to be seen and experienced in Jackson Hole.
To get you started, I’ve created a short list of winter tours for you to consider when visiting Wyoming in the winter.
5 Things to do in Jackson Hole Wyoming
Number 1 – Take a Wildlife Tour
First up on our Things to Do in Jackson Hole Wyoming list is to take a wildlife tour! There is so much incredible wildlife near and around Jackson Hole that you can see with the right guide.
When I visited Grand Teton National Park, I was able to see elk, moose, bison, pronghorns, and various birds. And this was when we were on our own. Imagine if we had taken a tour with a professional tour guide!?
This tour has over 300 5 star reviews! Considering the tour guides’ years of experience and their required science backgrounds, you will be guaranteed to have an amazing trip. Plus, they know all the hot spots to see these iconic animals of Wyoming.

Number 2 – Go on a dog sledding Adventure
I don’t know about you, but I have always wanted to take a dog sledding tour! And this is why this is next on my Things to do in Jackson Hole Wyoming list.
This tour will allow you to experience transportation of years gone by. You’ll get to meet the dogs, ride in the dog sled while a professional controls the dogs, and see the stunning views of the Tetons in the background.
If you are like me and have always wanted to go on a dog sledding adventure of your own, book your tour here.
Number 3 – Tour Grand Teton NP and the Elk Refuge
Now, for a more magical experience, I have heard amazing things about this Sleigh Ride through the Elk Refuge. This full day adventure offers pick up from most locations (be sure to search your stay ahead of time) and will take you on a grand adventure.
Your day will start with a drive into Grand Teton National Park to look for wildlife while avoiding the summer time crowds. Once that part of your day comes to a close, you will bundle up and take a sleigh ride through the Elk Refuge.
This is definitely on my bucket list and while I haven’t done this experience quite yet, I plan to update this post when I do! But in the meantime, book your tour here!
Number 4 – Go Snowshoeing in Grand Teton NP
If you’re like me and prefer to hike all summer long, then maybe you’ll want to try snowshoeing!
This tour through Viator offers a unique experience and stunning views of the Tetons. You will be guided by knowledgeable guides along the mountain range in SNOWSHOES!
If you’re worried about whether you’ll be able to do this, the description for this tour says “If you can walk, you can snowshoe!”

Number 5 – Ride a Snowmobile through Grand Teton NP
And finally, we have arrived at a tour I have been personally recommended to do. My mom did this tour a few years back and still talks about her Snowmobiling experience!
This tour is yet another unique way to experience the beauty of Grand Teton National Park. Your experienced guides will lead you on lesser-used snowmobile paths for an adventurous day. Plus when you return to the lodge, hot coffee and hot chocolate are included!
